How to Setup Google AdSense on WordPress

There are myriad ways to make money using an existing website, including developing an e-store, blogging about and linking to affiliate products, and by requesting funding from supporters. While those are adequate strategies, they either require a tremendous amount of effort to be successful or aren’t reliable streams of income.

However, selling space on your WordPress website is an excellent means of getting steady revenue from your site’s hits, even with modest traffic. Of course, if you do have higher webpage hits or are willing to invest a little time, you can certainly make money with WordPress and Google AdSense.

Why You Should Use AdSense

In principle, making money with AdSense is relatively straightforward. Once you’ve partitioned an appropriate amount of space on your site (levels vary by ad campaign), advertisers then compete for your web space via auction. Once the spaces have been sold for each impression or click that you receive, you will be paid securely and on time through Google.

Of course, the amount you are paid depends on the level of site traffic. The more regular traffic you get, the better bids you will get. And the more relevant an ad is for your website – for example, a varnish advertisement on a woodworking blog – the more likely the ads will motivate prospects to click.

Fortunately, Google AdSense bidders tend to select compatible websites to ensure both you and they receive impressions or clicks from website users.

How to Add Basic AdSense to Your WordPress Site

Sign up for a Google AdSense account, which should take no more than a few minutes.

Since this is automated, you are afforded a great deal of flexibility where you want to place your ads. And, by using tools within the AdSense dashboard, you can specify the ad’s size, font, color, etc.

Once your ad’s coding has been finished, save your custom widget, and then copy and paste it onto the HTML of your pages wherever you deem it would be most effective:

[insert the HTML code here]

A note about adding AdSense to themes: If you are using WordPress, there are a few different ways to include ads in themes. For instance, certain themes have specialized scripts within the meta box to which the code can be added. If placed there, your new ads will appear on the header of every webpage on the site.

Alternatively, if you can’t do this with an existing header, there are specialty plugins you can install which work around the technical limitations of an existing theme. Once installed, your ads should appear site wide.

How to Add Auto AdSense to Your WordPress Site

Assuming that you already have an AdSense account, browse through and select the ad widgets you think would convert best on your webpages. Just like with basic ads, make your selection copy and paste the AdSense code into the HTML of your pages.
